The Journey

We are all on a journey.  We all have stories to tell; stories that interact with others’ stories.  The journey of life has never been easy, but in the past several decades that journey has become perceptively more difficult with more twists and turns than ever before.  While there are similarities with previous generations, like the threat of nuclear attack, the current generations must deal with terrorism, mounting personal and national debt, the additional pressures of raising children in an arguably more threatening environment, the constant bombardment of information, and the list goes on.  The purpose of this ministry is to bring hope and joy to you as you as you navigate through the difficulties that face all of us today.

I have found that hope and joy are byproducts of a personal relationship with a holy God in which the beauty and the wholeness of his holiness restores us to be the individuals and groups He calls us to be. There are several objections people raise against holiness: it is legalistic; it is too high of a standard to reach, or it will limit my freedom and fun.  The first group should be asked, “Would you brush your teeth with a toilet bowl brush, or try to brush your hair with a toothbrush?”  To be healthy there are certain limitations we must put on ourselves.  The second group should be reminded that they are not alone in the journey but that they have been given the Helper along with confession, repentance, and forgiveness through Jesus.  The third group should be made aware that greatest freedom, happiness, and joy come from living within the boundaries in all areas of life.  For instance think about those who eat all sorts of fried foods and sweets or shoot up with heroin or cocaine.  They open themselves up to all sorts of health and relational problems including an early death.  All of us need to regain the wisdom of the ancient Scriptures.  Let me illustrate why.

One of my favorite passages is Psalm 37 which commands us to trust in God and to do good, but how can we know what that is when everyone is doing what is good in his or her own sight?  The psalm directs us to commit our way to God, but how can we know what that is when everyone is making his or her own truth?  It also instructs us to delight in God, but how are we to do this when we are constantly being bombarded with so much painful and hurtful stuff?  When seven billion people are living only to make themselves happy based on their own truth and definition of good, there are bound to be conflicts and fighting.  I propose that we reexamine the ancient path laid out in the Holy Bible by a Holy God who has called you and me to be holy like he is.  Impossible?  There must be a way.  Come, walk with me on this journey.

Question: How might life being a journey of holiness effect your life?
